Sean “Diddy” Combs has been arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon, the UCLA Police Department has confirmed.
In a written statement, UCLA police said Combs was arrested Monday at the Acosta Athletic Training Complex on campus shortly after 12:30 p.m.
According to entertainment website TMZ.com, Combs is accused of grabbing and confronting the assistant coach, who allegedly yelled at his son Justin, a defensive back on the team.
While the details surrounding the arrest were not disclosed by authorities, UCLA police identified the alleged weapon as a kettlebell.
UCLA police said no one was seriously injured, and that an investigation was underway.
Police said Combs would be transported by evening to a jail run by the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department.
After Combs’ arrest, Jim Mora, the university’s head football coach, issued the following statement:
“I’m thankful that our staff showed the level of professionalism that they did in handling this situation. This is an unfortunate incident for all parties involved. While UCPD continues to review this matter, we will let the legal process run its course and refrain from further comment at this time.”
